By plane
Due to the proximity of Viterbo to Rome, the nearest airport is Roma Fiumicino, try to avoid Rome Ciampino because travelling to Viterbo takes longer.
Once you arrive at the airport, you can reach Viterbo using the following options:
Fiumicino aeroporto – Viterbo Porta Romana (recommended) :
Search on trenitalia for the earliest connection. There usually are trains every 30-60 minutes that takes less then 2 hours to reach Viterbo from Fiumicino Airport. You will need to change trains in Roma Trastevere / Ostiense or other stations. Please follow the website indications to avoid closed stations.
The Fiumicino aeroporto train station is inside the airport. When you search for train connections, ensure to write Fiumicino Aeroporto and not only Fiumicino.
The hotels we provided are a maximum of 15 minutes’ walk from Viterbo Porta Romana station.
Fiumicino aeroporto – Orte - Viterbo Porta Romana:
You can also reach Orte instead of Viterbo via high-speed connections from Roma Termini (30 minutes). Roma Termini can be easily reached via the Leonardo Express train from Roma Fiumicino (20 minutes).
From the Orte station, connections to Viterbo are provided by trains (45 minutes - 1 hour), but it is usually convenient to directly travel to Viterbo Porta Romana from the airport.
Ciampino aeroporto - Roma Termini - Viterbo Porta Romana
If the only option for you is arriving at Ciampino Airport, you will need to take the bus to Rome Termini, and then reach Viterbo via train.

Please note that if you arrive at the airport after 20:00, train connections to Viterbo are no longer available. The last train is at 20:12 from Fiumicino Aeroporto to Viterbo Porta Romana and at 20:27 from Rome Termini. Always check on Trenitalia website for the latest updates.
Please also be aware that Roma Fiumicino airport covers an area of 29 km², and reaching the train station from the arrival gates requires at least a 15-20 minute walk. The train station is located inside the airport and is clearly indicated by signs.
By train
The main high-speed train connections from different locations in Italy arrive at Orte station (20 km from Viterbo). From Orte, you can reach Viterbo via train connections.
Otherwise, you can reach the Roma Termini/Tiburtina stations and travel to Viterbo from there. Roma Tiburtina is usually the best option, as it offers direct connections to Viterbo Porta Romana.
